Fertilizer Restrictions Take Effect June 1 - Sept 30

Fertilizer restrictions are in effect for the application of fertilizer containing Nitrogen and Phosphorus from June 1 to Sept 30.  To determine if a fertilizer contains these nutrients, simply look for the three numbers on the fertilizer label.  These three numbers indicate the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium the fertilizer contains.  A zero in the first and second position indicate it does not contain nitrogen or phosphorus.  Any other number would indicate the fertilizer does contain some level of those nutrients. For example, a fertilizer labeled 0-0-27 contains no nitrogen or phosphorus.

Brevard County Commission approved an emergency resolution Thursday to repair the Sykes Creek Bridge on Sea Ray Drive, damaged by Hurricane Irma.

The resolution enables the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to move ahead with shoring up the bridge and frees up Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursement for the cost – 100 percent for the first 30 days and 75 percent thereafter.

The Corps will shore up the bridge, which will cost about $1.1 million, county officials said. Then the repairs to the bridge itself will cost another $1.5 million. County officials estimate the repairs will take 12 to 18 months.

Brevard officials said the repaired bridge will have the same clearance for boats as it has now.

32 launches planned for 2017

The Space Coast could see as many as 32 launches by five different rockets in 2017, the vice commander of the Air Force's 45th Space Wing said.

That would easily surpass the 23 launch operations supported in 2016, the busiest year in two decades.

“Just a tremendous year,” said Col. Walt Jackim, in a “State of the Wing” presentation to the National Space Club Florida Committee in Cape Canaveral. “It’s only going to get busier for us.”

The first of 2017 is planned for Thursday, Jan 19th by United Launch Alliance with an Atlas V launch.   It's the first of at least seven launches ULA plans from Florida, including six on the Atlas V and one by a Delta IV.
